The ad you can smell

Rare Beauty scratch-and-sniff billboard in New York City promoting Selena Gomez’s beauty brand with vanilla scent

Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty turned heads in Manhattan with a giant scratch-and-sniff billboard that let passersby smell vanilla right off the ad.

Rare Beauty didn’t put up a billboard. They built a perfume sampler the size of a bus stop.

Scratch. Sniff. Snap a photo. Post it online.

Why it worked?

Here’s my twist: if I ran a local bakery, I’d copy this move with a poster that smells like warm bread at 8am. Nothing sells croissants like FOMO carbs.

Takeaway: Good ads don’t just show you something. They make you feel it.
